Today, while scrolling through NoFilmSchool, a video caught my eye. We had just been introduced to the prompt of our final project, so when I saw a video about how to generate creative ideas, I couldn't resist watching it.
Shimpei Takahashi is a toy maker from Tokyo who was having trouble thinking of new ideas for toys. So, instead of twiddling his thumbs and waiting for an idea to magically come to him, he came up with a game that helped get his creative juices flowing. The game is called Shiritori. All you have to do is think of three words, each new word beginning with the letter that that ended the previous word. For example:
puppY -> YoyO -> Octagon
This strategy not only makes you think of random ideas that you may not have otherwise, but it also can give you a crazy new idea for a video. Like a sad puppy that doesn't understand why his octagon yoyo doesn't work properly.
This idea may not seem very logical at first, but if you give it a try, you may end up with some awesome ideas!

Panasonic Post Focus
https://youtu.be/zukYhBihj80
Today I watched a video on NoFilmSchool about a new feature you can download on the newest software update on some of the Lumix cameras. This feature is called "Post Focus" and it allows you to change the focal point on pictures you take after you take them. Changing the focal point on a picture can change the look picture dramatically. This can also help you very much if you are looking at your pictures and realize some of them may be a bit out of focus. The post focus also has a fine tuning feature that greatly improves the quality of your pictures.

Boom Operator
Today I have been doing research about boom operators and their roles in production. Boom operators are the people that hold the boom mics while filming to ensure that they are getting proper sound. A famous boom operator that I found is Don Coufal. Don has worked on many productions including Grown Ups, Mission: Impossible III, Horrible Bosses, and much more. In order to be able to withhold the expectations of a boom operator, you must know a lot about sound, be patient, have excellent listening skills and have the ability to anticipate. I don't think that I would be a good boom operator because I don't have very good patience and holding up a mic does not seem like the best job in the world.

The Effect of Color
Not many people realize how much the look of a video/movie changes from the time it is shot to the final product. The color of the video has a tremendous effect on the mood and theme of the whole film. Colorists are extremely important in film because they are in charge of manipulating the color settings to give the project the perfect feel. This horror film called The House On Pine Street, shows the effect that color has on the tone of a film.

Music Video
1. For our music video, Natalie and I wanted to mock "4-5 Seconds" by Rihanna. Not only did we want to copy a lot of the shots they did in the video, but we wanted to capture the overall look.
2. We changed our original idea last minute and decided to do 4-5 Seconds. We had a few problems at first, including getting our actors to show up to school and getting the perfect lighting to key out our shots, which we quickly found was harder than we thought. Once we got the lighting down, we filmed all of our shots and did the coloring digitally.
3. One important thing that we learned was that the lighting must be perfect in the green room in order for our video to key out properly. I also learned that you need to hire people that are completely committed to the video in order for your video to turn out well.
4. If I could change anything about this video, I would redo the silhouette shots in the green room rather than on the computer because they don't look the way i wanted them to.
5. In pre-production, we kind of (story boarded) on my phone by taking videos of the original music video on my phone, which really helped us get finished more efficiently.
6. In my next project I would do a short trial with keying out the lighting on the computer to make sure that the video looks just the way i want it.
7. At first, we got frustrated and almost didn't decide to do our video, but in the end I'm glad we did because it was a great experience and I honestly love our video, even though we had a few issues along the way.

North by Northwest Reflection
1. In class, we watched the movie North by Northwest, ( North by Northwest. Dir. Alfred Hitchcock. Perf. Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint. Films Inc., 1959.) This film was about a guy who was falsely pursued by a group that thought he was going to interfere with their plans of smuggling a microfilm out of the country.
2. I thought that the camera work was very good for the time that it was filmed. The lighting looked a little odd, but it digitally colored after it was filmed, which is so much work and not nearly as easy as it would be now. The camera work was intriguing enough to keep me engaged in the movie although it was an older film, which isn't really my style.
3. At the end of the movie, the main characters survive falling off of Mt. Rushmore and get away together, but it does not show how they survived. I thought that the end was kind of lagging and confusing, but the rest of the story was portrayed well and was very interesting.
4. I thought that the sound was very good in this film which is very important. Sound is an extremely important component to making a movie come together and fun to watch.
5/6. This video showed very good composition, which is something we've learned a lot about. They used the rule of thirds and switched angles/shots often to keep the audience engaged.
7. The movie was filmed a very long time ago and the makers had to personally color the film by hand so that it was not black and white. They made some of the actors look extremely orange, which was a little distracting, but again, I can't even imagine how hard it would have been to color the movie by hand.
8. I thought the movie had a good plot and was very fun to watch. It kept the audience engaged which is obviously one of the main goals of making a movie. I would definitely watch it again.

Gallup Strengths Finder
Gallup's Strengthfinder assessments are about 15 minute computerized tests that use science to assess one's strengths by asking a series of questions.
My results told me that my top 5 strengths are:
1. ADAPTABILITY
Adaptability is the ability to live in the present and respond to the demands of the moment. People that are adaptable can easily adjust to problems and changes that may occur.
2. COMMAND
People that have command as a strength naturally take charge. They aren't afraid of confrontation and their talent pushes them to take risks.
3. RESTORATIVE
Being restorative is an executive trait. These people love solving problems because they enjoy taking on the challenge. They enjoy bringing courage and creativity to problematic situations.
4. DEVELOPER
Developers are people that naturally see potential in others and their capacity to develop. They enjoy challenging others and being a part of their development.
5. INCLUDER
Includers are people who want everyone to feel included and invited. They feel sensitive when people are excluded and want everybody to feel equally important.
